Silverstone July Classic Car Sale – How did Our Picks do?

The Silverstone Auctions July Classic Car Sale took place this weekend, and some weeks ago we picked out our star cars from the sale… but how did they perform?

First up, the two we wrote about…

1999 Ferrari 550 Maranello – Estimate (£): 120,000 – 140,000 > Unsold… Website lists ‘Buy Now for £142,968’

Super low mileage of just 25,000 but we think save yourself £40,000 and go buy one to use.

2011 BMW 1M – Estimate (£): 40,000 – 45,000 > Sold £42,750

Smack bang in the middle of the estimate. There’s more to come from limited edition M cars.

And how about the rest of our picks?

1991 Vauxhall Lotus Carlton- Estimate (£): 60,000 – 70,000 > Sold £72,000

Comfortably beating the upper estimate, this low mileage and highly collectible Carlton gave no surprises… Although the £50,000 gulf between this Lotus Carlton and the 73,000 mile car on offer at this sale tells us this car won’t be seeing many miles. (That one sold for £23,625). Watch out for this 4,500 mile gem popping through an auction for twice the money in a few years time.

1985 Porsche 911 3.2 Carrera Cabriolet – Estimate (£): 32,000 – 37,000 > Sold £35,435

This time last year this 911 would have smashed that upper estimate.

1964 Triumph TR4 – Estimate (£): 24,000 – 28,000 > Withdrawn

Regretfully withdrawn

1999 Ferrari 550 Maranello – Estimate (£): 120,000 – 140,000 > Unsold… Website lists ‘Buy Now for £142,968’

Super low mileage of just 25,000 but we think save yourself £40,000 and go buy one to use.

1964 VW Type 2 Camper – Estimate (£): 70,000 – 80,000 > Sold £62,250

There are a couple of seriously tidy 23 windows coming up for sale in the USA which are knocking on double this money, making this Type 2 look quite the bargain. The old adage of ‘a grand a window’ seems a long time ago.

1969 Porsche 911 T – Estimate (£): 65,000 – 75,000

Another lot listed as ‘Buy now’. Where are the 911 collectors when you need them? > Unsold… Website lists as ‘But Now for £68,500’

2011 BMW 1M – Estimate (£): 40,000 – 45,000

Smack bang in the middle of the estimate. There’s more to come from limited edition M cars.
